Geoff Borin

Geoff Borin – Designer

I have over 20 years experience designing a wide range of book covers and page layouts for some of the UK's top non-fiction book publishers

Overview

If you are looking for a designer who knows how to put a book together, with all the knowledge of the rules and conventions required, a great eye for detail plus a flare and passion for making it look beautiful - please get in touch!

With a first class degree in Typography & Graphic Communication (from The University of Reading, UK) I spent several years working in London with top non-fiction, illustrated book publishers Mitchell Beazley and Hamlyn. Working my way up to the roll of Art Director, covering a wide range of subject areas including Food & Drink, Home & Lifestyle, Gardening, Art, Architecture, Antiques, History, Sport, Health & Wellbeing. I have been working successfully as a freelance designer since 2001.

I can take any book project from initial concept through to final print-ready files, creating well thought out design solutions to a consistantly high standard, while always being mindful of the initial brief. I am experienced in commissioning and directing of design, photography, styling and illustration, preparing print-ready files and monitoring print production (proof checking and colour correction). I work in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.

Clients include DK (Penguin Random House), Pitkin Books (Pavilion), Ryland, Peters & Small, Cico Books, Quarto, Watkins Media, Parragon Books, Kyle Books, Hardie Grant UK, New Holland Publishers, Mitchell Beazley, Hamlyn, Ebury Press, Weldon Owen (San Francisco, USA) Miguel Sal & C., Trentini Srl (Bologna, Italy). Apart from books I have also worked on magazines, catalogues, annual reports, logos, branding, packaging and exhibitions.

Working with Geoff was great -- the quality of work is fantastic, and he is great at taking in feedback and working with authors, no matter how particular they may be. My project required a particularly large amounts of editing and changing things and Geoff was accommodating and happy to help. Highly recommend.

Working with Geoff has been a great pleasure. Not only does he bring years of experience and talent, but he shared knowledge freely, which as a first time author I much needed. His pricing is reasonable for both author and artist, and his communication was not only punctual but kind and considerate as well. With Geoff you not only get the artistry needed for a moving cover and flowing interior ...

I could not have been more pleased working with Geoff. He truly is very artistic and talented. He is extremely detailed, which was one of my major concerns because of how I am about details. I am new to all of this writing and publishing, and his help was invaluable. If I ever wrote another book, he would be the first person I would contact. His patience was also remarkable.

Working with Geoff was great. He understood the content of the book and was able to reflect it in the cover design. We went through many rounds of design, and each time Geoff was receptive to the feedback given and integrated it perfectly. I am very happy with the final cover design -- I think it looks great. I look forward to working with Geoff in the following weeks to design the interior of ...
