Gaynor Haliday

Gaynor Haliday – Editor

Experienced editor specialising in non-fiction, particularly history, memoirs, biographies, genealogy, crafts, hobbies and transport.

Overview

After several years working in the food manufacturing industry, even my sweet tooth had had enough of the 'eat as much as you can' pastry sampling sessions. It was surely time to change direction!

I decided to hone my natural ability to notice errors in written material – both printed and digital – and underwent some professional training with the CIEP (Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading) before embarking on my second career in early 2015, initially using my skills to help small businesses and individuals present their information in a professional, readable and logical manner.

As well as writing website content and blogs for a diverse range of clients, my work expanded to include proofreading and copy-editing non-fiction books for a traditional publisher.

Five years later, after further training with the CIEP and with plenty of experience under my belt instead of Danish pastries, I upgraded my CIEP membership to Intermediate level, and after eighteen months I was accepted as a Professional member.

With a keen eye for consistency, grammar, detail and facts, I specialise in proofreading and editing non-fiction and commercial material. If you would like to use my skills to check and polish your manuscripts, brochures, marketing campaigns, websites, presentations, or any other written material, please contact me.

As a first time author, I was overwhelmed by the process of writing and publishing. Gaynor's calm and simple approach helped me immensely. She never added to my overwhelm by giving me too much to consider. She edited my manuscript thoroughly, making wonderful suggestions through-out. I highly recommend her to other genealogy and local history authors looking to put out the best book they can.

This editor is experienced, polite, and professional. Her knowledge of British history complemented my need to ensure the work was written in the proper context. Her suggested edits were on target and, I believe, greatly improved the quality of the product. I am pleased with the outcome of our collaboration.
