Overview

Currently a senior development editor for Bloomsbury Visual Arts, I began my career as a production editor at Routledge Books before working as a freelance editor, copyediting and proofreading monographs and trade non-fiction. At the same time I studied a creative writing degree part-time at Edinburgh Napier University. Before coming back in-house to Hodder, I undertook structural, line and copyedits on romance fiction for Choc Lit's ebook-only imprint, Choc Lit Lite. After Hodder, I joined Bloomsbury Visual Arts as their development editor, reading manuscripts and offering feedback, briefly commissioned on the photography and design lists as a cover and am now the senior development editor on the fashion list.

I can only take on a few select jobs to fit in with my other commitments, but if you're a romance or women's literature writer or publisher, I can offer you structural/development editing, line editing, copy editing and proofreading. If you're more of an academic or professional non-fiction writer, I can offer copyediting, proofreading, picture research and permissions clearance.

How we work is up to you, and what level of feedback you're looking for. For a development edit on romance/women's fiction, for example, I can return a tracked-changes manuscript with a covering note, or I can offer you a full reader report, which provides insight into things like structure, characterisation, pacing and plot, along with a marked-up manuscript. I love nothing more than helping an author write their best work - and as someone who's had a go at writing their own tome, I know all too well that feeling of 'can't see the woods for the trees'! I hope those experiences make me a sympathetic editor, with the skills to unpick the mechanics of your writing - from structure to sentences - to help get you onto the path of your best work.
