Erika Koljonen

Erika Koljonen – Editor

Editor. I have experience editing a range of non-fiction and fiction, with a focus on narrative non-fiction and literary fiction.

Overview

I'm an experienced editor with a passion for bringing ideas to life, and have worked across non-fiction and fiction. I love getting stuck in with structural amends, and have a stellar eye for detail with proofreads.

Over the years I've edited books on rare languages, ADHD, lesbian culture, asexuality and aromanticism, and the global poverty crisis, as well as sweeping family sagas and mythological retellings. I've worked with authors from all walks of life, from debuts to journalists and academics! Some recent books include Is It My ADHD? by Grace Timothy and RARE TONGUES by Lorna Gibb, as well as the philosopher and academic Frank Martela's STOP CHASING HAPPINESS. In the past, I've also worked with Graham Norton, Sara Cox, DJ Fat Tony and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Due to my broad range of experience I'm extrelemely well placed to help shape your book to meet the demands of the market, and to asses where your book might sit. My editorial style is quite straight to the point, but before we start working together, I like to discuss feedback and editorial styles to see what works best for you!

Work experience

Atlantic Books

May, 2023 — Present
I published across both of the non-fiction lists at Atlantic. Recent and upcoming books include a biography of Catherine of Braganza, the history of disordered eating, and a gifty, witchy Yule tarot guide. I'm particularly interested in history, books exploring big global issues with a novel lens, current affairs, as well as smart takes on pop culture. I also acquire select expert-led health titles, and some gift.

Hodder & Stoughton

Sep, 2019 — Mar, 2023 (over 3 years)
I've been working at Hodder since September 2019, during which I've had the opportunity to work with both big-name brand authors and debut writers.

Daniela Schlingmann Literary Scouting

Jan, 2019 — Sep, 2019 (8 months)
I worked as a scouting trainee during busy bookfair seasons, which gave me a unique insight into the lifecycle of books, the pitching, submission and acquisition process, as well as a broad overview of the market and publishing landscape.

Freelance

Apr, 2018 — Sep, 2019 (over 1 year)
I worked as a freelance reader for agencies like London Literary Scouting and Elina Ahlback.
