Overview

I'm in it for a story that keeps me in my seat from the first page to the last, whether that a thriller, a procedural, a historical mystery with an unusual setting, ornonfiction: true crime, memoir, narrative nonfiction history. Always looking out for new points of view on genre tropes -- LGBTQ+ and BIPOC authors, I'm here for you and it's an absolute pleasure to read your work.

After 8 years in book publishing -- working on an array of stories both true and not true, with authors like Lauren Beukes, Mark Z. Danielewski, James Ellroy, Denise Mina, Pulitzer Prize–winner Heather Ann Thompson, and Andrea Wulf -- I went freelance and picked up a part-time gig at the independent Astoria Bookshop, where I can indulge my love of romance novels and keep pushing mysteries directly into readers' hands.

Proud resident of Queens, alum of Mount Holyoke College, and native of Ohio. My last name is pronounced “jill-yer-AH-no”.

Tam Dalrymple
Emily's familiarity with the mystery genre was of particular value to me. Her breadth of knowledge is wide and, from what I've discovered, her suggestions for comparable titles to learn from are on target. Her criticisms were frank, valid, and encouraging. Her ideas for improvements were practical and specific. I came away energized and (but?) with a realistic notion of the work ahead of me....

Emily was very professional, and I would consider using her talents again on my next project. I just remembered that she also reviews query letters which I need to have her do when I am finished updating my manuscript. Thank you, Emily!

Jim Nuffield
Emily was insightful and helpful. She had some really good ideas which enabled me to take my query in another direction. She also had some worthwhile notes on my first pages, again with an idea that really made sense. I would highly recommend Emily to anyone seeking creative ideas in the query process or in the writing itself.
