I'm the author of over a dozen fiction and nonfiction books, textbooks, and online educational resources. I'm also published crafts, recipes, articles, and stories in magazines like Highlights for Children. I'm the Regional Advisor for SCBWI Pennsylvania: West. I also teach in the Writing for Children and Young Adults Certificate graduate program at McDaniel College.

I love birding, baking, board games and reading. I'm a lifelong runner and avid community scientist and I'm pretty good at delivering punchlines.

When I work with clients, I try to tailor my feedback to each person's specific goals. I like to find out what each person hopes their project will be, and work to help them reach that goal. This means I often provide different feedback from person to person.

I've helped several people revise and edit short stories with deep emotional significance that were then self-published and shared with family and friends. I've also worked with writers by reviewing and editing manuscripts for submission to work-for-hire editors and for submission to agents and publishers.

I like to use the SCBWI Gold Form to structure my feedback and discuss all aspects of the work. But some people just want an experienced editor to provide proofreading and copyediting, and I'm happy to do that, too!

I can offer:
Proofreading and copyediting
An editorial letter with feedback
Substantive editing with in-line suggestions
Feedback on a story outline

I can also offer a Zoom meeting or phone call on the topic of "How Do I Turn my Story Idea into a Real Book?" consultation. This consultation can be tallied to discuss self-publishing or traditional publishing questions. Zooms/Phone calls are billed in addition to manuscript editing. If you're interested in this consultation, please tell me in your project brief. A one hour call is $75.00

I've also worked with authors to prepare their books for self-publishing. I've written over a dozen books for a variety of publishers in the field of children's literature.

Here's a testimonial I'm proud to share: "Elizabeth was a huge help in getting my book off the ground. I was a new author and didn’t really know what I was doing. Elizabeth gave me so much wonderful advice to get me started. She also edited my book. She was so easy to work with and made me comfortable enough to share my first draft with her. She was kind with her edits and was all around a joy to work with.

I really liked working with Elizabeth. She gave honest, helpful suggestions that helped with my story. She was very good at catching words that would have made my book look bad and suggested replacements for words that she did not think would fit with my story. I really enjoyed working with her!

Elizabeth highlighted strategies I never would have known about had I not consulted her. I very much appreciate her expertise and honesty.

I asked Elizabeth to review another PB draft that I have been working on in fits and starts for years. She gave me timely feedback, identifying editing problems and also structural issues that will require some adjustments to the story. I am glad that I asked for her review.
