Eddy Hall

Eddy Hall – Editor

Best-selling author and editor of non-fiction Christian books and curriculum, including professional books for ministry leaders.

Overview

I love to work with Christian non-fiction authors who have ideas the world needs to hear, but who need help creating an engaging, ready-to-publish manuscript. I can help you "hook" your readers, energize your storytelling, unearth just the right story to make you point (especially when you think that story doesn't exist), make the structure of your book flow seamlessly, and help your prose sparkle with clarity and brevity. I do as-told-to writing, but not blind ghosting. (A good example of my as-told-to writing is WITH JUSTICE FOR ALL by John Perkins, Regal.)

I am a tough but encouraging editor. I usually ask writers to do a good bit of new writing and rewriting. If you're just looking for light copyediting, I'm not your guy.

While I work with many kinds of Christian non-fiction, I have a special love for books for Christian leaders. I am a pastor and for 24 years I led a church consulting team (Living Stones Associates) that helps churches throughout the US and Canada with strategic planning and leadership development. I have many years experience coaching pastors.

On book-length projects, I begin with a manuscript assessment which consists of quick mark-up, strengths of each chapter, and work needed for each chapter, including additional work to be done by the author. After the assessment, the author decides whether to continue to work with me to complete the project.

I am a collaborator at heart. I enjoy collaborating with authors even more than writing my own books. I find that the shape of my collaboration with each author is unique. It usually takes a few chapters into the revision process to discover the optimum teamwork dynamics.

Work experience

Self-employed

Jun, 1976 — Present

In addition to writing books, I have edited books published by Zondervan, Regal, Baker Books, Herald Press, and Faith and Life Books. I have written and edited Bible study curriculum for children, youth, and adults and trained curriculum writers. I have edited a Christian youth magazine (10 years), a Christian youth worker journal (9 years), and a journal for Christian healthcare workers (9 years). I have done contract editing for LEADERHIP JOURNAL, Christianity Today's journal for ministry professionals. My articles and stories have appeared in 120 different periodicals. My favorite part of being a magazine editor was coaching writers and leading writers' workshops.

I can't recommend Eddy enough. He clearly brings an insane amount of experience to the table. He is the model of constructive criticism. Also, his estimates of the work my project needed were almost dead-on. This means that I paid for exactly what I needed (and not more). Anyone wanting to publish would be lucky to get to work with him.

Thanks, Jeremy. It was a delight to work with you on your book. I am eager to hold a copy of the finished product in my hands--and to use it in my work as a pastor as well.
