Find your next women's fiction read

For the initiated, “women’s fiction” sounds like a grown-up synonym for what we used to call “chick lit”: flighty, frothy novels with lots of pink on their covers — the kind of thing we see in supermarket aisles and buy in airport gift shops when we’re facing a long-haul flight and forgot to pack a book.

There’s nothing wrong with diving into a story that reads like Sex and the City in paperback form. But women’s fiction is so much more than that. In fact, the Women’s Fiction Writers Association uses the term to describe “layered stories” with plots “driven by the main character’s emotional journey.”

If you like nuanced relationships and psychologically incisive prose, then you’ve come to the perfect place: our Reedsy Discovery reviewers are curating the best indie women’s fiction on the market, from complex and bittersweet romances to thoughtful explorations of motherhood. Just don’t forget to “follow” your favorite reviewer, so you never miss out on any of their future picks.
