Daniel Reed – Designer

I am a professional illustrator with over 15 years experience in book and album cover illustration, my specialty is comic illustration.

Overview

Daniel is an award-winning Melbourne based illustrator and writer who has been working in comics for over twenty years. His own titles include ‘Grubby Little Smudges of Filth’, and ‘The Mycelium Complex’, Stories that explore fantasy and sci-fi genres with a mix of dark humour and original concepts.

With a unique illustration style that is highly detailed and full of character, Daniel has become a sought-after collaborator with other writers. Such projects include the post-apocalyptic ‘Evermore’, with Isobelle Carmody, epic crime thriller ‘The Boar’ with Lee Roy Kunz and Max Barsness, and the dark, brutal series ‘The Chain’ with Sean Webley.

Any day that he is at the drawing board is a good day as far as Daniel is concerned and he has no plans slowing down any time soon.

Work experience

Self-employed

Mar, 2017 — Jun, 2023 (over 6 years)

Illustrator of 500 comic pages (pencils and inks) for the psychadaelic/crime graphic novel 'The Boar', written by Lee Roy Kunz and Max Barsness.

Self-employed

Apr, 2012 — Apr, 2014 (about 2 years)

I illustrated 135 full colour pages of the award winning, post apocalyptic book 'Evermore', written by Isobelle Carmody. 'Evermore' was part picture book, part graphic novel and received wide distribution throughout Australia.

Self-employed

Aug, 2020 — Present

I worked as an illustrator for the single issue, Kafkaesque comic 'The Boatman'. A technique was engaged that used both linework and inkwash.
I also have illustrated two issues (60 pages), of the ongoing comic series 'The Chain'. A dark, horror comic set in a crumbling mission building in the Amazon. Both stories written by Sean Webley.

Self-employed

Jan, 2011 — Jan, 2013 (about 2 years)

I wrote and illustrated the award winning fantasy graphic novel 'Grubby Little Smudges of Filth', published in the U.S.A by Slave Labor Comics. The 160 page book was an intricately drawn fable aimed at readers 12 and over.
