My name is Daisuke Shen and I am a writer, educator, and editor based in New York City.

I currently teach fiction workshops at Authors Publish, and have previously served as an Editorial Assistant at The Asian American Literary Review and Lookout Books. Having recently completed a collaborative chapbook with fellow writer Vi Khi Nao, I am currently working on my own speculative short story collection. My work is currently represented by Michael Mungiello at Inkwell Management. I have previously been published in journals and magazines such as Autostraddle, Hobart After Dark, The Nervous Breakdown, Maudlin House, Joyland Magazine, Southwest Review, and more.

I’m looking to work with writers who aren’t afraid to break the rules—bending genres, building different worlds, and seeking out complex truths.

Daisuke has been an absolute pleasure to work with. As a first-time author, there were many aspects in the editing and review process that I was unfamiliar with, but Daisuke walked me through it and made the entire experience very comfortable and rewarding. In addition to that, I was very impressed by her ability to parse through my manuscript and provide key insight and ideas on how my story c...

Daisuke helped me think in ways I've never imagined I could think or operate in when it comes to book writing and storytelling. She helped me become more detailed and aware of the experience the readers will have when they pick up my book. I've developed a clearer vision in all areas of book writing because of her and she's been extremely transparent during this whole process. She was there ste...

I enjoyed our collaborative effort so much! She brought my story to life. It is sad we ended on bad terms, a disagreement over a frivolous point. I miss her, but I’m used to being cut off, for a point of difference, a moment of doubt, experience over assumed political correctness. I’ve been Canceled, I guess.

So easy to work with. I didn't know what to expect as this was my first time hiring an editor but she is really easy to talk to. And isn't quality communication an underpinning of this craft?
