Overview

I provide general editorial services ranging from developmental editing to proofreading, as well as manuscript evaluations (editorial reports). Whether you need a quick, last-minute grammar check on your resume or someone to guide you from a first to final draft, I'm your editor.

I have a BA in English and a certificate in Book Publishing, and I've been a freelance editor since 2016. In 2015, I completed Humber College's Book Publishing program, and interned at Simon & Schuster Canada before becoming a freelancer for them. At S&SC, I helped the editorial department in a variety of capacities, including reading manuscripts for consistency, editing and proofreading jacket copy, creating activity sections (e.g., author interviews and discussion questions), pursuing image permissions, and performing book award research.

I have an in-depth understanding of North American book publishing and its markets. While I've worked in-house, I prefer the closer relationship between freelancer and client because it allows me to have a better understanding of what my editing strategy should be. I have a demonstrated record of excellent job delivery and great client rapport.

Each editing decision I make is based on your intentions for your project. I can work within your budget and think outside the box to meet your goals. Clarity of purpose is the most important element of my editing, whether the work is on fiction, a professional resume, or an informational pamphlet. Whatever your project is, I can help make it better.

Testimonials:

Ceileigh’s developmental edit of my non-fiction manuscript was invaluable for making what was a complex theoretical argument flow well and be appropriate for wide variety of readers. She made sure the main thread of my argument was clear and consistent throughout my book. She also provided insightful and often alternative points of view for me to consider which not enriched my argument, but also made it more engaging and relevant. For being able to see the big picture of my book and helping me to execute that vision, I highly recommend Ceileigh’s editorial services.
-Dr. Mark Hawkins, counsellor and teacher

Ceileigh has been so helpful to me, both in her review comments and her ability to brainstorm with me on character development, structure, plot, and pacing. Her approach to working with me is highly collaborative. She applies her deep knowledge of fiction writing to my manuscript, offering specific insights that have inspired me in the revision process.
-Jeff Lefkoff, writer

Ceileigh was an editorial assistant at Simon & Schuster when my bestselling novel Still Mine was published. She was part of an excellent and extremely skilled team who brought the book to life and helped it spend six months on the bestseller list. Ceileigh demonstrated a very sharp eye in her editorial contributions. It was wonderful to work with her!
-Amy Stuart, author, Still Mine, Still Water, and Still Here

Ceileigh’s edits were incredibly helpful for the novel I’m working on. Her knowledge of technical aspects, attention to detail, and spatial awareness in scenes was the feedback I needed to improve my draft. Her fresh perspective and insightful edits fleshed out my writing, and gave me more confidence in the overall story. Thank you so much!
-Jenn Galambos, writer

Ceileigh was very professional throughout the process of editing my book. She was concise, knowledgeable, detail-oriented and focused. She knew what she was doing and kept me updated throughout the entire process. I definitely recommend Ceileigh as an editor.
-Nima Niknam, writer

Ceileigh is a phenomenal editor! She helped me with my Honours thesis and with both of the academic articles I used as writing samples in my grad school applications. She has an eagle eye for typos and grammar errors, as well as fantastic insights into how narrative should flow, whether that narrative is communicating a story or information. She's also great at making her clients feel confident and empowered in the editing process.
-Rena Roussin, doctoral student, University of Toronto

I worked with Ceileigh on a short opera. As a librettist, she quickly developed a deep and nuanced understanding of the source story in all of its different versions. She was an amazing collaborator as we worked to move from the written prose into a libretto to be delivered through song. Her text brought a distinct voice to each character and transformed the story into a form that could be told through the unique perspectives of each person. I’d highly recommend Ceileigh as an editor, writer, or collaborator for any project!
-Liam Elliot, composer

Ceileigh has been my editor for over ten years. She has done incredible work elevating my writing in three academic disciplines, and in all my creative pieces. She has made my writing sound more polished without losing my voice, and has proven that I can give her any piece of writing and she will make it better. She is thanked in both of my theses as well as every creative piece that has a dedication.
