Caitlyn Averett – Editor

I'm a children's/teen editor with experience at a Big 5 publisher. I've worked with NYTimes bestselling authors, such as James Patterson, Kerri Maniscalco, Natasha Ngan, and Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I have experience working on middle grade and young adult in a variety of genres, including: fantasy, grounded sci-fi, contemporary, romance, and LGBTQ+ stories.

I come from a writing background, so am well aware of the editing process from the writer's side. With my feedback, I always aim to get to the heart of a story and provide comments that help bring the core of the story to life. I am highly collaborate and provide very detailed editorial notes. My particular skillset includes: structural feedback, character development, helping piece together a story that's just not quite clicking, and highlighting pacing/foreshadowing/tension issues.

With my experience in writing and in publishing, I bring knowledge of current market trends in the children's industry and an understanding of what editors are looking for in a pitch, concept, or opening pages to my editorial feedback.
