Overview
I started copyediting and proofreading while working on my doctoral dissertation in 2017. Since then I've taken on the whole gamut of academic editing and proofreading work: from looking over students' essays and theses, to preparing books for publication, to editing whole journal volumes. While many of the bigger, published projects I've taken on have gravitated around philosophy and (history of) religion, I've taken on work in most academic disciplines within the humanities and STEM, and I'm always happy to branch out much further still.
A highlight of this work for me is the personal connection that it involves: I take seriously the responsibility of looking after the thing you've dedicated your time to creating - ever more so in a time when it's easier to let a machine do it for you - and I care deeply about getting the smallest details right. (I once had a nightmare about a missing comma.)
While precision and clarity are essential to academic writing, this doesn't have to come at the cost of your voice as an author. In both copyediting and proofreading, my goal is to enhance your writing while keeping hold of what makes it uniquely yours. I offer elegant ways to do both, while handing agency back to you by providing fleshed-out suggestions and options where there are multiple valid ways forward.
I hope we can work together soon!
