Bethany Wright

Bethany Wright – Editor

Former Penguin editor with an MA in Creative Writing from UEA. I enjoy working with authors to make their book the best it can be.

Overview

I have five years' in-house editorial experience, at Penguin Random House, Thames & Hudson and Routledge. I've had the privilege of working with authors such as David Attenborough, Stacey Dooley, Chris Packham, Jenny Colgan and Paul Smith. I also have an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia.

I enjoy working closely with authors to bring out the best in their books, whether that means offering advice on how to structure a book or proofreading to pick up any mistakes that have crept in. My favourite thing about my job is how much I learn from each book I edit, from discovering a forgotten female voice in history to learning the collective noun for a group of walruses (an 'ugly').

Bethany did another great job on the second manuscript I've had her edit. She pointed out some areas that could use improvement, and found issues I'd overlooked in my own early editing of the book. I can't thank her enough for all the great improvements she has helped me make toward the finished product.

Bethany did a great job with her edit of my novel. She pointed out ways I could make the story better, places where the tension could be increased and other places where I was falling into bad habits of explaining instead of showing. This is the first book that I am going to be publishing, and I know that without Bethany's help it would never have been as readable and enjoyable as it now is. ...
