Becca Mascull

Becca Mascull – Editor

Developmental editor & book coach for historical fiction, romance & contemporary comedy. Trad published novelist & award-winning teacher.

Overview

Do you need a book coach who knows exactly what they're talking about? Do you want a writing mentor who's worked in publishing for many years and knows that world inside and out? Do you need an editor with an eye for detail and in-depth understanding of how novels work?

I’m a bestselling writer and award-winning teacher of writing with decades of experience. I can help fiction writers at any stage of their writing journey, from starting a novel to preparing a short story for publication, to sharing trade secrets about the hidden world of working with publishers to polishing that finished novel for submission to agents. I offer editorial assessments, developmental editing, agent submission package reviews and longer-term mentoring and book coaching.

In fact, one of my mentoring clients has just signed with a top London agent, immediately after working with me for a year.

I'm a writing mentor, book coach and editor of emerging writers for literary agency Curtis Brown Creative and others, also delivering masterclasses and being a keynote speaker. I mentor writers via video meetings, written reports and inline editing of their work and detailed discussions on how to improve their manuscripts, as well as how to produce the ideal agent or publisher submission package. We can work on short-term one-off contracts, or arrange longer mentoring programmes over several months. N.B. I work only with those aged 18+.

Get in touch to discuss what I can offer you. We can create a bespoke programme for you according to your writing needs, For example, an editorial assessment or developmental edit of your finished manuscript; an initial 2-hour video call to discuss your novel's structure; reading 10k words of your work plus a detailed written report; a 6-month mentoring programme including video meetings, readings of your work and written feedback reports. If you book a longer-term programme, I will offer a decent discount.

My editing fees are below Reedsy's average fees quoted by the calculator within this article:

I've 30 years' experience of teaching creative writing, as well as having a Masters in Writing, a PGCE in English and I’m an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Thus I have the breadth and depth of experience in writing, editing and coaching to be your new mentor in crafting your writing to be the best it can be.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

Becca was amazing. End of review. I mean, I could (and will) go on. But that's the gist. Becca is everything you want in an editor. She took my story and brought it back to me with thoughtful critiques, suggestions, and points that I had missed no matter how many times I'd gone over it myself. I ...
