Ashley Floréal

Ashley Floréal – Designer

Digital illustrator and visual storyteller with a passion for horror, surrealism, and highlighting Black voices and faces.

Overview

I’m a professional illustrator from central Canada with an Honours degree in Interpretive Illustration who has been working professionally as a freelancer in the industry for a decade. With experiences in editorial illustration, gallery art, film and entertainment as well as publishing, I have designed characters and covers for Black literary spaces in the past, which reflects a career-long passion for highlighting and depicting underrepresented faces in my work, incorporating personal cultural elements and amplifying Black representation and perspectives often sorely missing from the higher echelons of publishing and design.

Inspired by and with a great love for painting flora, fauna, horror, surrealism and counterculture, my work is defined by bold, edgy, vivid and complex compositions, esoteric ideas, femininity, pattern, likenesses and portraiture, pagan aesthetics, and beautiful brown-skinned figures of all shapes and sizes, but my portfolio contains great versatility in subject matter, content, and utility. This versatility allows me to adapt my artistic approach to suit the specific tone and aesthetic of each project. If you’re looking for something unique and eye-catching to draw in readers and leave a lasting impression, you’ve found the right collaborator no matter your specific need.

My art has always come from a place of suggesting a compelling narrative beneath the surface, as I believe all art should, and bringing stories to life through a visual medium is my passion as well as my job as your collaborator. I believe you’ll find me open and easy to collaborate with, detail-oriented, attentive to your input and generous with concepts and process work to help better achieve your goal of the best representation of your project. Nothing brings me more happiness than the feeling of successfully bringing your vision to life!
