Overview
Mistakes in a published piece make authors and publishers look...bad. I see each piece I edit as an opportunity to make sure an audience has no reason to discount or discredit the author's words. I want you and your published work to be as credible as possible. I have more than 20 years of experience in writing and improving what's already been written—fixing spelling and punctuation slips, correcting grammatical mishaps, keeping style consistent, and smoothing out the occasional awkward sentence. While I also have experience as a technical writer, proposal writer, and more, over the past decade I've focused more on my copyediting and proofreading work. I deeply enjoy what I do, and companies keep me at the top of their freelance list because I do a great job.I've worked on projects for large and small publishing companies, including McGraw-Hill, Zaner-Bloser, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Pearson Education, ABDO Publishing Company, Capstone Publishing, Press Box Books, Bearport Publishing, Focus Readers, Learning Care Group, and others, as well as several self-published authors. My portfolio shows a fraction of the various pieces and genres I have copyedited recently. Most of my copyediting work has been in nonfiction, especially educational pieces for young readers, but I'm comfortable with nearly any genre. Some of my recent experience includes:- Biographies and autobiographies- Sports stars/heroes- Current issues, such as drugs, politics, immigration, climate change, and mental health- World religions- Biblical commentaries- Technology for kids- Outdoor adventures- Animals- Student classroom workbooks- Teacher classroom guides (early childhood through middle school)- Summer camp guides- eLearning materialsI am comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Acrobat Writer and Reader.
