Overview

I am a content editor (developmental and editorial assessments) with four years of experience working in the traditional and indie publishing industries.

The bulk of my editing experience has been with Pleiades, a literary journal of creative fiction, poetry and nonfiction. While editing with Pleiades, I championed a piece of fiction titled "The Imagination Resettlement Program" which went on to win the 2019 Pushcart Prize. I am currently a Senior Editor and Writer at Status Quill, where I perform developmental edits, editorial assessments and query reviews.

I earned my B.A. in creative writing at the University of Central Missouri. I also earned my minor in communication. Rather than reinventing the work I've been given, I prefer to remaster. I seek to enhance, to make crisp and clean the substance in front of me. I am always excited to work with authors who play with high concepts, world-building and character growth in new and inspiring ways. My comments tend to lean into the reasoning behind an edit, as well as the suggestion itself.

I tend to be easy-going, thorough and specific.

This was my second time working with Alison, and again I can't recommend her enough. She has the rare ability to see a the entirety of a novel, the themes and broad strokes, while still diving into the grammar and syntax weeds. If you need an editor reach out to Alison, she does incredible work.

This is my second time working with Alison and once again she was very professional, on time and a joy to work with. Her attention to detail and focus on consistency was superb. She also adds a personal touch when working with writers, which is something I appreciate. I hope to work with her again on my next manuscript which is a WIP.

Alison provided me with an outstanding editorial review. It highlighted areas for improvement. She also let me know where I succeeded and underscored prose that was memorable. Mostly I appreciate her honesty and suggestions on how to improve my story. I have been trying to review the novel myself but knew I needed a review from an experienced editor. I am so glad I chose her for the review. She...
