Abi Pollokoff

Abi Pollokoff – Editor

Passionate about bringing your best words to life. Specialities in nonfiction (history, cookbooks), poetry, children's. 10+ yrs experience.

Overview

I've been working with words for nearly a decade... but I've been a reader much longer than that. I have a BA in English, French, and Italian and an MFA in poetry, and I cut my teeth at Pelican Publishing (Gretna, LA), one of the largest trade publishers in the South. I've since edited both freelance and professionally across diverse genres.

A bit about my editorial approach: My goal as an editor—no matter where in the process—is to ensure that the reading experience is the best it can be. By making sure the language is consistent and understandable, I can help you hone in on the best way to communicate your meaning and connect with your readers. That means supporting and sharpening your voice—not advocating for my own. I stay positive, productive, and professional across the working experience.

I highly recommend Abi. I was thrilled with the proofreading she did on my two poetry books. She was meticulous with punctuation, grammar and formatting. She was friendly in her suggestions on wording, and I found that they elevated my poetry. I will definitely hire her again if I write more books.

Wow, I really appreciate Abi's exceptional editing effort. My children's book has benefitted greatly from Abi's feedback. It was a real joy working with someone who graciously gives my work the same attention and thoughtfulness that I do. As a young author, I must say how appreciated her reasonab...

Very good proof-reading. I think I would prefer more interaction up front, including reviewing and agreeing on all the items on with Abi's style list. Abi's General Index looks good but I haven't had a chance to review it real closely yet.

I work in the food and drink space, with heavy crossover into self-help and fantasy. I like to think of myself as specializing in escapes.
