Overview
As an acquiring editor with experience at multiple big 5 houses, I am here to help with development of book proposals, and to provide bigger picture developmental and structural edits, as well as detailed line edits. I love to work closely with my authors at all stages of a project, providing frequent feedback on the chapter and line level where needed. I aim to be an empathetic and collaborative editor, asking questions throughout to dig to the heart of your argument and push to ensure its made as clearly and strongly as possible, while also acting as a voice of support while you take on the big task of writing a book! My Word doc comments are a healthy mix "pull this thread further" and "make sure to define these terms for a lay reader" alongside the occasional "LOL" and "classic!"
I love nonfiction written by experts on a subject in a way that makes them accessible to the lay reader, particularly in cultural histories, memoirs, and narrative hybrids of multiple genres. I am a research nerd to the highest degree, but also a lover of language, aiming to help you reach that nonfiction pantheon--nonfiction that reads like fiction. I love a story about a niche community, an important political issue, or something we think we understand but really don't, told through a personal narrative brought to life through colorful characters. Some of my upcoming projects I'm most excited for are a history of 90s emo, a cultural history of online dating, and a narrative history of birthright citizenship in America, which demonstrate my generalist sensibilities, with a throughline of heart, community, and justice at the center. If you're passionate about it, I want to read it! And help you bring it into the world, sharpening *your* voice and argument for the widest audience of readers.
