Overview
A former writer-editor for Time-Life Books, I taught composition, technical writing, and linguistics at Howard University and directed its Writing-Across-the-Curriculum Program for nearly 25 years. Having earned an M.A. in African American Literature and a Ph.D. in English Education, I have published empirical studies in scholarly journals, historical essays in Time-Life Books, an academic book for teachers, and a literary anthology for college students. I have also copy-edited historical novels and edited manuscripts about science to make them comprehensible and engaging for the public. My publishing experience, academic training, and years of teaching have taught me how to collaborate with authors and bring out the best in their work. As I have done with my students for years, I will help you clarify your purpose, ideas, and organization in the early stages of composing. Depending upon your preference, I will pose questions face-to-face online or insert comments in your draft. Then, drawing upon my training in linguistics, I will not only proofread your manuscript meticulously but also explain WHY I have changed your phrasing. In other words, because I am a veteran teacher, I want to empower you to become a better writer--even if it means you won't need my services again!
