Stu Hatton

Stu Hatton – Editor

I’m a freelance editor with over 15 years’ experience. I work primarily with academics, poets, and neurodivergent writers.

Overview

During my 15+ years as an editor, I’ve worked with many emerging and established writers to prepare their work for publication.

I work with academic authors in disciplines across the arts, humanities and social sciences.

I also specialise in poetry, with extensive experience as a manuscript assessor and book reviewer, as well as being a widely-published poet myself.

I'm passionate about supporting writers to tap into their creativity and hone their craft.

And I understand the ins and outs of self-publishing, having assisted emerging authors to self-publish their work, not to mention self-publishing some of my own titles.

Since receiving an autism diagnosis in 2020, I've chosen to focus on working with neurodivergent writers as an editor and/or mentor. But I'm also very happy to work with writers who don’t consider themselves neurodivergent.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in English and Philosophy) from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Arts (Professional Communication) from Deakin University. I’ve worked as a lecturer and tutor in the School of Communication and Creative Arts at Deakin University, and in the Department of Creative Arts and English at La Trobe University.

I'm always keen to hear what writers are working on, so please don't hesitate to get in touch!

Stu's feedback helped me see clear ways to improve my writing. He provided feedback on how to convey the right overall impressions in my work as well as detailed thoughts on word choice and technique. I appreciate his insights and would recommend. I look forward to any chance for a collaboration in the future.

Stu looks at the whole picture and he looks at every detail too, simultaneously. His input is precise, kind, and applying it will result in work that both goes a level deeper and is more polished.
