Overview
I've been a strategic advisor for technology start-ups, media properties, and non-profits. I was a founding editor of TED Books, and I've also been an editorial consultant for Dwell Magazine, Wired Magazine, Baby Center, Code for America, Bridge Housing, Ornish Lifestyle Medicine, and Neo. Life. I edited the internationally best-selling book The Female Brain by Louann Brizendine. As a veteran journalist, I've written for The New York Times, Business Week, The New York Observer, Newsweek, New York, Vogue, Outside, and Wired.
I love working with thought leaders (from CEOs to doctors to scientists. ) I'm a very hands-on editor, and I focus on the details as much as the big picture. I'm frank and have high standards, but I consistently deliver my criticisms wrapped in the strengths of the writing and ideas.
“I’VE HAD THE PLEASURE OF WORKING WITH RACHEL LEHMANN-HAUPT ON TWO WRITING PROJECTS. RACHEL COLLABORATED WITH MY TEAM AT RANDOM HOUSE TO EDIT AND RE-WRITE MY BESTSELLING BOOK: THE FEMALE BRAIN. SHE BRINGS HER HUMOR AND WIT TO EVERY PROJECT AND CAN HELP YOU PUT YOUR IDEAS IN FUN-TO-READ PROSE. RACHEL IS A TRUE PROFESSIONAL AND GETS THE JOB DONE. SHE IS A BLAST TO WORK WITH."
—Louann Brizendine MD, author of The Female Brain and The Upgrade: How the Female Brain Remakes Itself for the Better in the Second Half of Life.
"WHEN TED BOOKS APPROACHED ME TO TURN MY FILM BRAIN POWER INTO ONE OF THEIR MULTIMEDIA BOOKS, WORKING WITH RACHEL AS THE EDITOR WAS FANTASTIC. SHE IS A BRILLIANT AND INNOVATIVE PRODUCER AND MEDIA STRATEGIST." – Tiffany Shlain, author, filmmaker, and founder of The Webby Awards
"RACHEL WAS A DREAM EDITOR TO WORK WITH ON MY TED BOOKS PROJECT. AT THE 10,000-FOOT VIEW, SHE WAS AN INSIGHTFUL AND ENGAGED CO-PILOT, CONCEIVING AND SHAPING THE OVERALL APPROACH OF THE BOOK. AT THE 10-FOOT LEVEL, SHE HAD ENDLESS RESERVES OF CAREFUL ATTENTION AND PATIENCE, AS WE WRESTLED A BOOK WITH MANY MOVING PARTS TO THE GROUND. ABOVE ALL, RACHEL BRINGS JOY, PASSION, AND PROFESSIONALISM TO HER WORK, AND TO ALL OF THOSE AROUND HER WHO ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE HER ON THEIR TEAM." – Larry Smith, author and founder of the Six-Word Memoir Project
