Matt Hubel – Designer

I’m an illustrator with a background in fantasy art. I’ve spent years in the video game industry, and have created art for everything from Mobile to AAA video games, to trading cards, to magazine covers, and book covers.

My art style tends to be painterly, expressive, and colorful. I almost never use photo textures in my work, as I like to feel fully hand painted. I don't use any AI in my painting process either. I feel like AI is more trouble than its worth and often leaves people with half baked, lukewarm art that doesn't really evoke any emotion.

I work digitally, and think it is a great medium for quick iteration. For me, its the easiest way to make changes and let the authors ideas become fully realized. I also work much quicker digitally, which makes my turn around time fairly fast. I love creating cover art and trying to express the mood of a piece of writing.
