Overview

I love working with authors who know a lot more than I do about something, and I seek out opportunities to explore new realms of knowledge. I have worked to cultivate a light editorial touch (though if you need your text shortened, I can help: I really enjoy the puzzle of conveying the same meaning in fewer words). I relish getting my teeth into a complex project. I strive to be the author’s useful companion in building a path for the reader, and my greatest professional satisfaction comes from knowing that together we have made that path clear and smooth.

Having left London for Scotland in 1995, I did freelance copy-editing and proofreading work for the Macmillan (Grove) Dictionary of Art and for the New Grove Dictionary of Music, 7th edition. I then put my editorial business on hold while raising a family. I resumed freelance work in 2011, since when I have copy-edited or proofread more than 100 titles: academic monographs and essay collections, university-level textbooks, reference books, and educational materials, for publishers including Routledge, Oxford University Press, Macmillan and Pearson.
