Jill Gallagher

Jill Gallagher – Editor

I offer a decade of editorial experience in textbooks, nonfiction trade titles, and literary fiction. I also write essays and like donuts.

Overview

As both a writer and editor, I understand the delicate relationship dynamics at play when it comes to trusting your work to another person. I'm a great (and quick!) communicator who's well-equipped to deal with deadlines, project particulars, and the many intricacies of language. Trust me to find that plot hole, check that fact, or correct that dangling modifier--but in a nice way!

My experience as a textbook editor (first at Cengage, then Routledge, and now with Macmillan) has given me skills in seeing both the big picture (structure, pedagogy, design) and paying attention to the tiny details (Oxford commas, MLA documentation, and image attributions).

I've also worked as a freelance copy editor, proofreader, blog editor (for Fordham University Press and Fringe Magazine), and book reviewer (for Publisher's Weekly and the Ploughshares blog).

My essays have appeared or are forthcoming in BuzzFeed, Greatist, Vol. 1 Brooklyn, and Catapult, and I write a tinyletter about dating and relationships called Leaving the Party Early & Alone. I formerly ran a literary style blog called Looks & Books. I got my Master's in Publishing & Writing from Emerson College.

I look forward to bringing my editorial and writing experience to your project!
