Jamie Evans

Jamie Evans – Editor

Detailed and approachable editor, focusing on MG, YA, and romance. MFA. Associate managing editor at Peachtree Publishing and Holiday House.

Overview

As both an editor and writer, I understand how it feels to be on the receiving end of feedback. That's why I offer a friendly approach to editing, both to help you shape up your writing, and also to help you learn.

I was previously the in-house editor at The Knight Agency, where I worked on adult romance, and I am now the associate managing editor at Peachtree Publishing and Holiday House, working on children's titles ranging from picture books to YA.

I offer two types of services:

1) Editorial assessments for early drafts of manuscripts that need big-picture feedback.

2) Copyediting for manuscripts that have already gone through big-picture edits, beta readers, etc., and are ready to be cleaned up at the sentence level.

I hold an MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts, a certificate from the Columbia Publishing Course, and a BA in creative writing from Emory University.

Work experience

Peachtree Publishing & Holiday House

Nov, 2021 — Present

I help manage the production schedules of our titles while performing regular editorial reviews of each title on my list. This includes copyediting and proofreading shorter works, and oftentimes cold reading novels for the acquisitions editors (see selected works below). Formerly a production editor.

Forbes Travel Guide

Sep, 2015 — Aug, 2018 (almost 3 years)

I edited reports based on hotel, restaurant, and spa inspections, checking for clarity, accuracy, and tone.

The Knight Agency

Oct, 2013 — Sep, 2015 (almost 2 years)

I helped oversee the literary agency's assisted self-publishing program, TKA Distribution. I edited adult romance manuscripts, assisted with formatting and marketing the books, and uploaded the finished products to online retailers.

Jamie was absolutely amazing to work with! I’m still just a beginner when it comes to writing and I knew my manuscript wasn’t perfect but I had no clue where to start in fixing it. And now with Jamie’s feedback, I’m feeling more energized with a clear path on how I can improve my story. She kept me updated the entire time and answered all my questions after I got my edits too. Not only did she ...

Her feedback was constructive and ultimately she has breathed new life into my novel. She took everything I asked for and delivered to the highest standard. Thanks to Jamie I feel like my novel can now go in th...

Jamie exceeded my every expectation. This was my first experience working with an editor and she made the process seamless. Her weekly communication and updates were always appreciated. And her edits and suggestions on the manuscript were spot on. I'd 100% recommend working with Jamie, and I'm excited to collaborate with her on future projects.
