I work with authors who teach kids to read, whether the books be literacy readers or reference books explaining how to teach kids phonics.
Overview
I am driven by how important literacy is for children, not just as kids but as where it can take them.
I have a deep understanding of both phonics and whole language approaches. As an editor, I can refine materials for different learning needs, balancing structured phonics instruction with the fluid, context-driven techniques of whole language. I craft materials that are both logically structured (for phonics) and engaging/meaningful (for whole language), ensuring learners benefit from both.
I help an author engage with their target audience (i.e. kids – as well as educators and parents).

Being employed in Hansard involves editing transcripts of parliamentary debates and committee meetings. This sensitive procedure requires retaining the original sense and flavour of what a member of parliament says while conveying it in a grammatical form, removing obvious repetitions and redundancies, and transforming the verbatim transcript into reader-friendly text which can be picked up in ten (or however many years time) and understood.
Of course, as everything is now available online, we mostly have to let the members of parliament say exactly what they said, and just add a few full stops and commas and remove obvious repetitions and redundancies to make it more comprehensible in the written form for posterity.
