I’m Gary, a professional copyeditor and proofreader with experience on 200+ books.

Since starting my freelance business at the end of 2020, I’ve been fortunate to work with some fantastic writers and publishers, and my goal on each project is simple: to make your book the best version it can be without changing what makes it yours. I’ll work carefully with your words, respecting your voice and the style of your writing rather than trying to impose my own.

I’ve worked across a wide range of genres, with particular experience in historical fiction, psychological thrillers and cosy crime, as well as memoir, romance, fantasy, horror and science fiction. That experience means I can adapt to different styles and tones while still paying attention to the things that matter, whatever the genre.

Working with me means you’ll get a detailed editorial eye and clear, constructive communication. I spot more than just typos: I check for inconsistencies, continuity slips, awkward or clunky phrasing, and anything else that might distract a reader. I also carry out careful fact-checking where appropriate, particularly when your story features real people, places and events – something that can be especially important in historical fiction. This is something I'm really fussy about!

I know handing over your manuscript can feel daunting, so I aim to make the process as smooth and supportive as possible.
