Overview
With ten years' experience editing fiction and nonfiction manuscripts and five years as a web editor with the World Health Organization, I have worked on hundreds of book projects, academic dissertations, and corporate documents.
I currently only offer editorial evaluations: a 3–6 page report of what works and what doesn't in your manuscript. This allows me to review your manuscript and provide insights without pushing you to hire me for further editing. As an objective reader, I will point out recurring issues in writing style, how your story or arguments are structured, and how well it meets your goals for the project. I will then recommend next steps, which you can pursue with the appropriate editor as needed.
I've been fortunate to work with accomplished and talented authors. Here's what they've said:
"I’ve written five books, all with Eric as the editor, and he has largely been the reason for their quality and success. Eric made the editing process painless and effective, but his help extended to much more than just editing: he took an active role in suggesting improvements and strategies. With Eric’s help, Mastering Online Marketing became the polished, professional book I had envisioned."
- Magnus Unemyr, author of 'Mastering Online Marketing' and others
“I enjoyed working with Eric. His editing work was excellent and he came up with several suggestions that I would not have thought of on my own. Everything was completed in a timely manner. The only change I will make for my next book is connecting with him earlier in the process.”
– John Cameron, author of 'Rock Solid: How to Strengthen Your Company'
"Eric’s editing is smart. His keen eye, attention to details and command of the English language helped my sentences and ideas get clearer and more precise throughout my book. I appreciated the first round of the editorial evaluation. This gave me a chance to better structure my book, before going into his final editing service. And now after he has gone through the book with a fine comb, I feel confident putting it out into the world. I highly recommend his services.”
– Sue Vittner, author of 'From Your Vision Board to Your Bedroom'

Work experience
World Health Organization
Strategic communications, web editing and content management for the WHO public website and internal communications.
Innovate Development
Created and managed an online news agency focused on innovative technologies, projects, and approaches in the humanitarian and international development sector.
Self-employed
I work with authors to develop and refine their manuscripts through editing, coaching, and publishing preparation. Over hundreds of manuscripts, I've worked with individual authors, publishing companies, and non-profit organizations to ensure their projects are crisp, engaging, and professional.
FriesenPress
Assisted up to fifty concurrent authors as they navigated the self-publishing process. This included preparing their manuscript, liaising with editors and designers, and pushing their book into the right distribution channels. Working closely with authors was a great way to learn about the unique hurdles each person faces as they complete the publication process and move into the marketing phase. I was grateful to experience such a wide range of approaches to writing and to see the amazing breadth of ideas that authors bring to their projects.
University of Victoria
Taught and tutored for undergraduate courses in art history and film history.
