Ed Whitworth

Ed Whitworth – Editor

I'm an experienced proofreader whose clients include University of Washington Press, Mountaineers Books, and The Yale Review.

Overview

"Ed was extremely responsive and professional on a project with an unusually tight deadline. We would definitely work with him again and highly recommend his services." Luna Press.

I focus on proofreading, both fiction and nonfiction, working with a diverse range of publishers and individual clients in the US and UK.

Some recent highlights are "Biking Uphill in the Rain" by Tom Fucoloro, selected as a "Peak Pick" at the Seattle Public Library, and "Treaty Justice" by Charles Wilkinson, published on the 50th anniversary of the landmark Boldt Decision on Indigenous rights (both UW Press), as well as "Going to See" (Mountaineers), a collection of essays inspired by acclaimed nature writer Barry Lopez.

I am comfortable working with plain text or designed pages, notes & bibliography, and with style sheets and manuals (CMOS, AP). I bring the same meticulous attention to detail to every job and always approach the work in a spirit of collaboration.

I have completed the excellent Proofreading Essentials course at the University of Washington. I hold a BA in Classics from Oxford and MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA.

I have also worked as a journalist at The Times, and as a screenwriter in Hollywood and the UK, including for Warner Bros, BBC, Participant, and Pathé.

Having lived in LA and Seattle I am currently based in London, where I enjoy running, birdwatching, and photography.

I'm very approachable, so please don't hesitate to get in touch. Whether you are a seasoned author or looking to self-publish for the first time, I'd love to hear from you.

Need a proofreader? Ed helped me with my 2nd book. He was professional, effective, and timely. He answered my questions and did a fantastic job with the proofreading, catching all those nasty little things that like to slip through. He called out which things were standard and which were sort of ...

Ed got the proofreading done on time, and spotted some errors that I was stunned to see had eluded my co-author and myself, our beta readers, and our copy editor! Recommended!

Ed was so great to work with on this project. My first book and he was so helpful. Ed made every step along the way easy. He put up with my first-time stumbles and made the entire experience a pleasure, and I never once felt pressured. My next book will be proofread by him! His price was more tha...

I found Ed to be very thorough in his editing of my 160,000 word book. The edits on the last page were as meticulous as those on the first. He worked fast as was very responsive in our communications. Highly recommended.
