Ed Whitworth

Ed Whitworth – Editor

I'm an experienced proofreader whose clients include University of Washington Press, Mountaineers Books, and The Yale Review.

Overview

"Ed was extremely responsive and professional on a project with an unusually tight deadline. We would definitely work with him again and highly recommend his services." Luna Press.

I focus on proofreading, both fiction and nonfiction, working with a diverse range of publishers and individual clients in the US and UK.

Some recent highlights are "Biking Uphill in the Rain" by Tom Fucoloro, selected as a "Peak Pick" at the Seattle Public Library, and "Treaty Justice" by Charles Wilkinson, published on the 50th anniversary of the landmark Boldt Decision on Indigenous rights (both UW Press), as well as "Going to See" (Mountaineers), a collection of essays inspired by acclaimed nature writer Barry Lopez.

I am comfortable working with plain text or designed pages, notes & bibliography, and with style sheets and guides. I bring the same meticulous attention to detail to every job and always approach the work in a spirit of collaboration.

I have completed the excellent Proofreading Essentials course at the University of Washington. I hold a BA in Classics from the University of Oxford and MFA in Screenwriting from the University of California, Los Angeles.

I have also worked as a journalist at The Times, and as a screenwriter in Hollywood and the UK, including for Warner Bros, BBC, Participant, and Pathé.

Having lived in LA and Seattle I am currently based in London, where I enjoy running, birdwatching, and photography.

I'm very approachable, so please don't hesitate to get in touch. Whether you are a seasoned author or looking to self-publish for the first time, I'd love to hear from you.

Ed delivered a careful, thorough proofread of my nonfiction manuscript, on schedule and exactly as scoped. His corrections were precise, his queries were clear and easy to act on, and he respected the book's voice rather than rewriting it. A real bonus: his professional background gave him genuin...
