Overview

Hello! I’m Brianna.

I’m a writing coach and editor and I'm fascinated with helping my clients find more joy and ease in this process, because being a writer can be hard!

Like so many writers, I used to have a tortuous relationship with my writing—I wanted to write but I found myself avoiding writing. Or writing only on special occasions when I felt inspired or when the deadline was so tight I was writing with a grimace and a pounding heart.

And good news. Now I love to write and so I do! And I've helped my clients have the same kind of freedom with their writing.

I have over a decade of editing and publishing experience, and I love helping people create a more loving and relaxed writing practice, which, no surprise, makes for wonderful books.

In addition to coaching you around any stuck or heavy areas in your writing practice, I can provide manuscript developmental editing and line editing.

For developmental editing, I specialize in nonfiction with a special interest in memoirs and manuscripts that engage topics of self-development, mindfulness, and spirituality. I also love poetry and specialize in hybrid nonfiction/poetry manuscripts.

I was the editor-in-chief of the award-winning literary magazine, Ruminate, for over thirteen years. Under my editorship, the literature published in Ruminate was reprinted in award anthologies such as The Pushcart Prize and received over a dozen notable mention awards from Best American Essays, Best New Poets, Best American Short Stories, and The Pushcart Prize.

I have a MA in English literature from Colorado State University and am a graduate of The Center for Action and Contemplation's Living School and a Martha Beck Wayfinder Coach-in-Training

Editing services and writing workshops

Self-employed
March, 2010 – Present (over 12 years)

I led writing retreats and workshops and spoke on writing and editing panels at a variety of colleges and writing conferences. I provided evaluations of manuscripts for nonfiction and fiction writers including developmental edits, line edits, as well as communication with the writer before their review and after the review to partner with them in clarifying their editing needs and the overall objective and goals for their manuscript. When possible and applicable, I also provide suggestions for small presses and literary magazines that would be good fits for publication.
