Ana Espinoza

Ana Espinoza – Editor

Hi there! I'm an experienced former editor of NYT bestselling and award-winning books at Doubleday Books, especially nonfiction and memoir.

Overview

At Doubleday, an imprint of Penguin Random House, I worked with first-time and repeat authors at every step of the editorial process. I've edited New York Times bestsellers and literary award winners, including a National Book Award finalist. I’ve also spent time on the agency side at Massie & McQuilkin and Writers House, where I evaluated submissions and helped pitch books to international publishers and film producers. I know the ins and outs of the (often inscrutable!) publishing ecosystem and I'm glad to help you navigate it in addition to providing editorial feedback.

I offer manuscript assessments and developmental editing for a range of adult fiction and nonfiction. Within those broader categories, I'm especially interested in memoir and narrative nonfiction with a personal element. No matter the genre, I love helping authors sharpen their unique voices, nail compelling narrative arcs, and write clear, impactful sentences. Above all, I'm here to help your transform your manuscript into the best version of itself, in keeping with your original vision.

My goal is to work as quickly as my schedule allows while ensuring a quality edit. As a new freelancer, my rates are generally on the lower end of the range described here: https://blog.reedsy.com/guide/editing/cost/

I'm based in Queens, New York, and when I'm not editing, I love knitting, trying new recipes, and going on long walks. I'm excited to meet you and your work!

Ana definitely improved my manuscript. She kept my story focused and on track. She also caught a multitude of things that could negatively affect the story. She suggested alternatives to problematic words, sentences and paragraphs. Her fee was very reasonable and she delivered her input on time. ...

I wanted the cleanest, tightest draft possible to submit to my editor at my publisher, and Ana was instrumental in getting me there! I would absolutely hire her again
