I have worked as a picture book editor both in-house and as a freelancer for many leading UK publishers, including Penguin, Bloomsbury, Macmillan, Simon and Schuster and Hachette, with award-winning authors including Allan Ahlberg, Michael Morpurgo, Peter Bently and Simon Phillip. I just can't get over how I managed to have the best career in the world!

What excites me most about developmental editing is the moment when the tiny spark of an idea begins to blossom into something truly original. As a published author, I totally get that writing can be daunting, and self-doubt can easily creep in. You're thinking, 'Is this brilliant or is it a load of rubbish?'. Don't slide down that slippery slope! Every book has to start somewhere.

Just to add – the picture books I work on generally have between 400 and 800 words so anything much longer would not fall into my area of expertise!
