Dr. Alison Jefferson

Dr. Alison Jefferson – Editor

Professional book editor (dev/copy, acquisitions) in SF/Fantasy, NF & Academic. | Experience with new/unpub. Authors.

Overview

I'm a professional NF commissioning editor, and provide copy, developmental (structural), and stylistic line editing freelancer. I have over 15 years' experience, across various disciplines and genres. I have also designed various logos and worked on covers for books and series', as well as related design work on websites and branding. I've worked on myriad nonfiction manuscripts for independent authors, as well as publishers such as Springer and MCUP.

As a fiction editor, I focus on retaining your unique voice and style while considering your target audience and publication goals. I will help you refine your manuscript to strengthen your prose and bring your plot to life. I will help you fine tune your writing and structure for your non-fiction projects or academic manuscript, to ensure it is well-paced and that the argument is clear. The overall aim is to enhance readability for your target audience without losing the essence of you as author/creator.

FICTION -- my editing specialties are in science fiction/speculative fiction and fantasy. I offer developmental editing and stylistic line editing for novels and shorts, as well as outline and novel assessments.

NON-FICTION | ACADEMIC -- I specialize in education, writing, sociology, and social justice. I have edited, authored, and commissioned various media including monographs, edited collections, articles/blogs, website and business content; I continue to write and publish as an independent researcher and scholar.

I enjoy working with newer authors and those new to publishing; drawing on my experience as an educator, I can help you improve your craft, so your manuscript is ready for agents or self-publishing. I offer assessments (aka evaluations) as well as coaching and book doctoring - please just ask.

PRICES: rates are based on Editorial Freelance Association (EFA) guidelines; you can get an idea of average costs on their site. I will work with you to create a tailored service to suit your manuscript, aims, and budget, wherever possible.

PRAISE:

Alison was a pleasure to work with. She provided honest, insightful, and actionable feedback on areas where the manuscript was good as well as areas where it needed improvements. Turnaround times for edits were quicker than expected, and she was always responsive to the many queries. I would recommend Alison if you require an editor.

Hoi T. Pham -- Author, Broken.

This was the second project I worked with Alison on and she did not disappoint. She's talented and knowledgable at what she does. Honestly, a great person to fine-tune, edit, and overall enhance your work. Highly recommend!

C. Lawrence -- Author, Dark Guardian.
