I'm a professional, non-fiction commissioning editor and freelance fiction editor. I offer line and developmental editing for fiction and select non-fiction projects, in addition to copyediting for non-fiction and academic works.
Regardless of the type of edit you need, I aim to retain your unique voice and style while considering your target audience, whether you're writing about aliens, education, or dinosaurs!
I can help you refine your manuscript, honing your prose to bring your plot to life or clarify your structure to help explain your argument. The aim is to enhance readability to help you grow your target audience through clarity, structure, pacing, tense, and point of view.
I have fifteen years of experience in editing (and tutoring) across various disciplines and genres. I am an avid reader and love many genres, but my specialties in fiction are science /speculative fiction and fantasy. I offer developmental editing and stylistic line editing for novels and shorts. Due to my background and previous roles, my non-fiction specialties are education, sociology, and social justice; I have worked on edited collections, academic articles, and dissertations, and have published my own work as an academic.
I enjoy working with less-experienced authors who may be new to the writing and publishing world; I can use my knowledge and experience in teaching and coaching to help you improve your craft for future manuscripts. I'm always happy to offer manuscript assessments and coaching - please just ask.
A bit more about me:
I'm not just an editor on Reedsy — I work as a commissioning editor of academic books and work as an academic researcher. I've worked on myriad non-fiction manuscripts for independent authors and publishers including Springer and McGill-Queens University Press. I divide my time between academia and fiction. Half my day is concerned with book contracts and research in educational sociology; the other half is spent trawling the internet, checking the distance to Alpha Centauri or how fast a T-Rex runs... the perks of having multiple roles I love!

Ikenna's work is influenced by West African cultures, creating a distinct blend of Afrocentric folklore combined with anime-style themes.
