I hadn’t thought about ‘Tom’s Midnight Garden’ for years, but when I read your comment, I realised Philippa Pearce's novel must have played a part in inspiring my book. I think two other wonderful stories might have been in the back of my mind too: ‘A Traveller in Time’ by Alison Uttley and ‘A Daughter of Time’ by Josephine Tey. What you read as a child stays with you forever. The initial idea for ‘Stranded’ came to me when I was watching 'Downton Abbey' on TV. I thought, how would a modern young woman cope if she found herself in a grand house in the 1920s for real? (Answer = badly!)
How exciting that you’re writing ‘Tom’s Magic Garden.’ When will it be published? I’d love to read it!
