This is the sixth book in my Roland Mason series. These historical mysteries are set in Wyoming in 1880-81. Although I wrote the books to be standalone, the subplot is a romance between two of my main characters. Note that it did take six books to get them from not liking each other to the altar! The marriage does not end the series. I have ideas for three more, and probably more after that. In the meantime, I am writing a "cozy mystery" set in the present day. Look for it in 2024! A historic mystery worth reading. A private investigative firm- a man and a woman- work a case that gets both complex and deadly.

Like everyone else affected by the stay-at-home order from about March to July, I was at home, going out only for groceries once a week. But I made the most of it. I had this idea for a book, in which one of my recurring characters from the previous four books in this series was arrested for a murder committed three years earlier, in New Orleans. Naturally, my main protagonist, attorney Roland Mason, had to travel to the Crescent City to defend his friend. My staying at home allowed me to write 65,000 words in three months. The book was in edit when the death of George Floyd put a new dynamic on the story, since the antagonist was not a person. It was racial bias and racial discrimination, a "normal" part of life in the post-Reconstruction South. I had considered delaying publication, but I decided that the story was worth telling. I hope my readers agree. I am already 11,000 words into a sixth Roland Mason historical mystery. It should be completed sometime in 2021. Everyone stay safe out there. We'll get through this. -Roger
