"Sport IT! Stay Fit!" inspires children and adults to step away from electronics, get fit, get healthy, and have fun while doing it.
Bop it sock it roll and rock it! Jump and slam-dunk it!
What’s your sport? From basketball to yoga to rock climbing to paddle boarding, this rhyming picture book celebrates a variety of ways to stay active and have fun moving! Lively, playful dinosaurs in all shapes and sizes, also capture the spirit of sport for young kids.
A fun read-out-loud book about all the sports a child can play to stay fit, and healthy.
Children are increasingly opting to stay indoors and play digital games. While those are fun, we must encourage children to get up and get movin'! Sport IT! Stay Fit! does just that! Page after page shows dinosaurs working their muscles and having fun doing it.
Kids will watch the dinosaurs playing indoor activities such as basketball, ballet, and hockey. They'll see a triceratops break a karate class board while another two deliver front kicks. They'll also read about the vast collection of outdoor activities. Riding bikes, water sports, (snow) skiing, tennis, soccer, and ice skating, to name a few. If your child isn't into competitive sports, that's okay; the dinos also have you covered on that. Watch as T-Rex and his buddies strengthen their muscles by lifting weights. Bend, bow, and relax as you perform Yoga with an ankylosaurus and his friends. If none of these options appeal to you, consider rock climbing, hiking, speed walking, or running.
Pria Dee (the author) gives families so many options to exercise daily. Whether you hopscotch across a sidewalk, skip rope, or sled down a mountain, Sport IT! Stay Fit! hopes to inspire children and adults to step away from electronics, even if it's just for a brief time.
Sport IT! Stay Fit! couldn't cover every exercise, game, or sport. That would require a thousand more pages. That's where parents and educators come in. Please encourage children to think of other ways to work their muscles. Make a list, put those options in a hat, and draw from the hat each day.
I recommend sharing the activity book with one-year-olds through first grade. It's a delightful read-out-loud book, and the illustrations by David Lock are din-o-mite too! Even though I suggested the book for one-year-olds and older, babies also need exercise. They might not understand the text, but they will love looking at the pictures and going outside for a stroll, an afternoon on the swings, and much more.
I've been constructing reviews for over a decade and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. Most of the reviews will be featured on my blog (Kam's Place), Pinterest, Instagram, BlueSky, and Goodreads. Don't forget to tip your waitress! :D
