"Beneath the smooth, familiar face of things is another that waits to tear the world in two."
"Circe" by Madeline Miller is the perfect example of character development and women empowerment. Circe is the daughter of Helios the God of the sun and the mightiest of Titans. But Circe is not like her father or her mother. She has no power like her father and nor she is as gorgeous as her mother. She is often ignored by her parents and her siblings.
One day they discover that she has a dark power that can threaten the Gods- Witchcraft.
Due to this, she is banished from the kingdom and sent to an island named Aiaia, where she learns to discover herself. Making different kinds of spells, gathering strange herbs, and taming the wild animals. But all the peace in her life is soon disappeared, as the most unexpected visitor visits her island: The Mortal Odysseus. The blooming friendship between Circe and Odysseus soon affects Circe, which leads to her risking everything she has built.
The book revolves around Circe being a naive girl to her turning into a superwoman and facing every problem heroically and surviving hot and bright in the man's world. All the twists and turns in the book are written brilliantly.
Circe from me is 10/10 recommended.
