@susiehelme6005 Susie--Thank you for reviewing Irina and for the Five Star rating along with a few good words. There are other words you used which were quite a surprise given the subject matter and content of “The Lost Wisdom of the Magi.” Now that I am halfway through your novel, a pantheon of esoterica about ancient Hebrew studies and geographica, not to mention Sophia’s seeming obsession with numbers, star alignment, and other arcana, I am amazed that you would depict “Irina” with chapter after chapter of St. Augustine—which is not the case. So disparaging a remark about my use of ancient and Christian philosophers to background Madrosh’s tutelage of Irina in spiritual thought seems gratuitous, especially given Sophia’s story arc. Like “Lost,” “Irina” is about a young girl seeking meaning in a world ruled by men, and in Irina’s case, it’s about coming to an understanding about the existence of God amidst the treachery, mayhem, and murder all around her. Your comment suggesting that the summit of her life is beginning a “furniture dealership” seems a bit demeaning, don’t you think? Irina was a peasant girl, coming from nothing, and found a way to survive and thrive in a man’s world to provide something of beauty previously not available, at the same time freeing the Africans in bondage to the struggling furniture maker she managed into success. I surely hope you might reconsider some of your verbiage about Irina’s journey. Many thanks-- Phil

@susiehelme6005Susie--I was confused when I saw the Under Review and your interest at the same time. When you're finished with 'Irina,' pls post your review on Amazon. I am NOT a registered Reedsy Reviewer, but I have already downloaded a Kindle edition of 'Lost Wisdom of the Magi' from Amazon, and will post a review on Amazon when I'm finished. Nice story approach--I'll be interested to see where it goes. Thanks!!

You can get it for free if you're on Kindle Unlimited, or I can send you a pdf--just let me know what you prefer. Your book sounds fascinating and I'll get it via Apple just as soon as I finish The Midnight Library.
