I usually write hard-ish SF but I thought I'd give the venerable Vampire genre a go. I ending up with an SF/Horror Mashup. Why not see what you think of it?

An excellent review which covers the main parts of the plot without giving too much away. It is good to see one's work appreciated like this. My only quibble is that no mention is made of one of the main characters and her interaction with the protagonist.

A classic early tale of Vampirism with many of the well-know tropes clearly stated. The gradual build up is excellent. A seminal work in the development of the Vampire mythos, with many of the classic tropes. The tale is of a beautiful young girl, Carmilla, who is invited in to the home of Laura, a lonely young woman. Soon the visitor develops an inordinate affection for Laura but also begins to display strange behaviour: she is always very sleepy during the daytime and has the power to disappear from her locked bedroom. A portrait is discovered which despite being a hundred years old appears to show Carmilla. Then Laura falls into a strange illness and has dreams where she is attacked by a black cat-like creature. However, General Spielsdorf resues her He lost his daughter to a strange malady, but has since discovered it was the work of a vampire-the selfsame one known to Laura as Carmilla. This work establishes many of the now familiar tropes of the genre. such a the ability to transform into an animal and the stake through the heart, and is still an absorbing story in the Twenty first century. This story was the basis for Hammer's "The Vampire Lovers" movie - although the sapphic allusions were made graphic.

An excellent Golden Age story . Character-driven with engaging protagonists. Old-fashioned with its view of ETs but a good read.

The Culmination of Stars Trilogy is finished. And now as the saying goes: It's time for something completely different. Inspired by Matheson's" I Am Legend" I hope to unleash on the world my Horror-SF mash-up: "No Truce With The Vampires."

"Culmination of Stars" is out. The Stars Trilogy is complete. The entire saga shows humanity with its backs to the wall after greed and the lust for power causes a great scientist to accidentally bring disater upon the Solar system. A desperate humanity devises three ways to try to escape the Destroyer. But will any of them work?

"Culmination of Stars" is complete; now in proof-reading. The triumphant conclusion to the "Stars Trilogy"- First "Doom of Stars", then "Resolution of Stars" & now "Culmination." 5 starships were launched from a dying Solar system. This is the epic story of the ship which endured the most incredible dangers in its attempt to reach Centauri. Of all the ships, the "Magellan" faced the greatest challenges, including one which threatened the entire Milky Way.

The first generation on the Magellan has passed away. Now it is crewed by people to whom Earth is only a fable, a legend. Still, it is over a century before they reach Centauri. They will never see it. But they will see the encircling darkness which holds many perils.

Many thanks to Chelsea. After surviving Christmas I have decided to get back on the saddle and start the final book of the Stars Trilogy, following "Doom" and "Resolution". It will cover the fate of the starship Magellan, which was one of the last to be launched in an attempt to escape the Destroyer. Wish me luck!

I am in the final stage of writing "Resolution of Stars". This is the sequel to "Doom of Stars" my last major novel. At the end of DoS the lightsail craft carrying Kalli and Jason had just been launched for the journey to Alpha Centauri, a journey which would take many centuries. But what about the helpless people trapped on Earth as the rogue planet Jupiter approaches? This is the story of what happened during and after the passage of the Destroyer. Of how on a blasted, desolate world Maya and Karn met and began their strange love story against a background of encroaching horror.

This is by Frank Herbert, famous for the Dune Saga, but it's quite a departure as it's about an expedition to Tau Ceti, a Sun-like star mentioned in my "Cave of Shadows". And, refreshingly, it features a slower-than-light starship. Don't forget" still time to upvote "Devouring Darkness."
