I really appreciate your insights and I understand where you're coming from about being able to improve the book with more context about the history of the dwarves and humans vs giants and witches, and also about things like the keradin (which is an invention of my own). I'm currently working on a prequel reader magnet that goes deeper into the history and context, so hopefully that supplements what was missing for you in this book.
