Loved it!! Hades Forest by Simon Elson is a great novel about what life in the future might be like. But it is not what you might think! Perry Benson lives in Tambamba, a village of the future, controlled by the Holy State of Borea and the Demiurge. Civilization as we know it (controlled by humanoids) has been destroyed. Borea controls what is left of the world. Perry has a voice recorder implanted in his neck that monitors his words and reports any discontent to headquarters. The tracking device in his foot keeps him where he belongs. He works where he is told, lives where he is told, eats what he is told, marries who he told, thinks what is he told, even has sex as he is told. He is pretty much a robot! But Perry is defiant and ends up in prison where is expected to kill himself. While there, he is rescued by Dolphin, a Crolax, one of the few remaining humanoids on earth, and taken to a remote island called Hades Forest where he is assigned to a tribe. Expecting to find a better way of living, Perry finds instead five rival groups of humans. Each tribe is known for a particular trait.  Crank’s tribe steals opponents’ supplies.  Feysal are all black and enslave opponents. Taveron are all female and rape opponents. Orynx capture two opponents and make them fight to the death. Vemlin torture and kill. This is certainly not the quiet life of Borea! Perry learns how to fight the other tribes and survive in Hades Forest but something is not right. An opposing warrior has a chance to kill him but doesn’t. Why? And why are the tribes fighting instead of working to overthrow Borea? Filled with suspense, mystery, and a little romance, this book will intrigue you to the very surprise ending!
