Tolkien inspired me to write when I was a teen and as an adult, William Gibson and William S. Burroughs. I admired Marshall McLuhan for his ability to predict something vaguely like the internet in 1962 and that the Global Village would bring conflict and not a lot of warm fuzzy Kumbaya moments.
