This was a fun read, that gives all the pre-halloween vibes. If you're looking for a lightly spooky read, this is the one for you.

It's spooky, it's eerie, it's creepy, but it's not the horror-fic scary you would expect.

Lissa Power is finding out what it's like growing up with a dad old enough to be her grandfather. Lissa is undeniably fond of her father, who is a skilled watchmaker. The story follows Lissa as she navigates losing her mother to breast cancer at a young age; and the ever-changing relationship between her and her father, who can be a little eccentric and sometimes overprotective. The novel encompasses 30 years with a strong historical relevance, containing civil rights movements, feminist movements, war, drafts, and ant-war protests.  I appreciated the time the author took to share the historical events in her novel and how well she represented them. The author put a lot of time into researching and creating a storyline capable of supporting such a heavy period in history. I also loved that the author used her gifts in storytelling to connect us to these historical events through Lissa's character; she also used storytelling as a way to keep Lissa connected to her aging father.  I give this book five stars, which I do not do very often, but I feel Christine Davis Merriman earned it. This novel is well developed, and it contains the perfect balance of factual history and fiction. I can easily recommend this book to all historical fiction and even readers of Women's fiction. I would not be at all surprised to see this title on the book club list soon.
