Sophie, her dog Charlotte and Hugo, her time traveling romantic interest are caught in an alternate 1925. They are trying to figure out how to return to the present by finding the lift that brought them to England. It seems impossible! The book can be read as a standalone novel. The author cleverly introduces the characters and plot, so the reader is brought current.   Sophie is enjoying the romantic interest Freddie is showing her. If she is to stay, she will need a husband, in this time, to be protected. Hugo seems more interested in another. The friends are swept into a battle against a Militia for the Communist Party, near the Manor they are living in. The story includes whalebone corsets, long, uncomfortable dresses for Sophie, dealing with household staff gossip, preparation to defend the estate Manor, and a secret priest hidey hole. There is a surprise at the end, and I am sure Rosalind Tate will continue the tale in a future book! I was captivated with such a fun saga!   Avid reader Shirley
