Honest, fair review. When I started writing years ago I always said that I'd hoped when I get negative reviews that they'd at least explain what, with solid detail, they didn't like. Thank you for doing that here :) Couple things...I really, and I mean REALLY had this book beta read to the point of overkill, and did so with a 95% female audience. The primary question I had was: "Is this character likable and/or does his voice seem authentic?" Of course, I inquired about the relationship with Laurel and many other facets as well, but Josh was my main concern, and with that, there's no question that some of the "connection" between the two of them probably suffered and was underdeveloped. However, the reviews and feedback were overwhelmingly positive. Embarrassingly almost. There were suggested updates/changes, but nothing crucial, at least that I was told, and I was very adamant about wanting to hear the good, bad & ugly. I'm not sure if you've written any books/stories, but holy smokes the amount of times you go back and either change something, or wish you'd had, is staggering lol. Because this is only my 2nd novel, and because I fully allow for it to be a craft that will take me some time to develop, I'm OK with getting panned here and there. Welcome it actually, as long as it's genuine criticism. One of the most confounding aspects of writing/reading is how often I'll read a book that has thousands of good reviews, sold hundreds of thousands of copies, etc., and yet some of the writing/character development is weak and unengaging, sometimes flat out awful...yet many, many people still loved it. It's not an endeavor you can ever expect to fully understand or master I suppose. However, I'm going to keep going with it and hopefully improve, grow, etc. Thank you for taking the time to read my silly little book. Much appreciated.
