I read three books during the month of August: Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers, Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner, and Djinn Patrol on the Purple Line by Deepa Anappara. One memoir and two novels, they were all great reads. Have you read any of them?
Alex Morrall – I just read Small Pleasures. I was divided about it really, but it did have a moving ending. It was interesting to hear of all the train intersections not so far from where I live.
Felicia Bengtsson – @alexmorrall I was divided too, mostly, I believe, because the romance storyline was unexpected. I did enjoy the themes and the setting, and I agree about the moving ending.
Tom Brown – I read, The Chief by Joan Biskupic, a biography about the Chief Justice of the Supreme court John Roberts. She takes us into the sacred conference room where the meeting of the minds decided cases and when and how votes are switched; jurists negotiations, heated languages and how cooler heads prevailed. Some of the hot topics are immigration, campaign finance, voting rights, civil rights, healthcare, abortion and gerrymandering. Chief Roberts calls himself a neutral umpire because he wants to protect the Supreme court's image and his own place in history. Chief Justice Roberts let it be known to his interviewer he cannot be described as a willing participant to this book that Joan has written. Read it. I recommend it. I give it 4-stars out of 5.
