Hi everyone 💛 My name is Evelyn—Evie for short. I started this journey as an attempt to heal, pouring myself onto the page. But when the finished piece came to life, I realised it might be something that could help others feel a little less alone. ‘almost her.’ is a deeply personal, fictionalised biography about a girl learning that growing up isn’t linear. She’s navigating first love, grief, boys who don’t see her clearly, and the struggle to appreciate herself. With a strong emotional undercurrent and a coming-of-age intimacy, it’s a story for readers of Dolly Alderton, Jessie Cave, and Sally Rooney—particularly those drawn to complicated women, the soft devastations of grief, memory, young love, and the messiness of being truly seen. Told in a blend of lyrical first-person and reflective third, ‘almost her.’ follows Clara—a girl not just navigating heartbreak, but becoming someone new in its aftermath. The novel begins with a drunk text that never gets a reply, but this isn’t a story about the boy who didn’t answer. It’s about the one who always did—until he couldn’t anymore. Through Clara’s reflections, we explore how love, loss, and longing shape her—and how sometimes, growing up means grieving people who are still alive… and eventually, those who aren’t. The story is inspired by my own experiences, particularly the loss of someone I loved deeply at a formative age. Writing this book was my way of making meaning of that loss—not through melodrama, but through honesty, tenderness, and the silences left behind. If you’d like to read a sample, I would be honoured to send you a private link. From my heart to the page, Evie x
