"Splintered" by A.G. Howard - Review "Splintered" is an enchanting and haunting reimagining of Alice in Wonderland that captivated me from the very first page. A.G. Howard masterfully creates a twisted version of Wonderland, blending the whimsical with the eerie, and the result is absolutely mesmerizing. The story follows Alyssa Gardner, a teenage girl who hears the whispers of insects and flowers—a "gift" passed down through her family, supposedly cursed by Alice Liddell, the inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s tale. Alyssa’s journey begins when she discovers that Wonderland isn’t just a story; it’s real, dangerous, and desperately in need of her help to lift the curse. What I loved most was the atmospheric writing. Howard paints a darkly beautiful Wonderland that feels alive—equal parts dreamlike and nightmarish. The characters are wonderfully complex, especially Alyssa, who is brave yet deeply vulnerable as she navigates her fears, family secrets, and a love triangle that adds tension without overwhelming the plot. This book isn’t just about fantasy; it’s about self-discovery, family, and finding the balance between embracing who you are and who you want to be. It’s a story that lingers long after you’ve closed the book. If you enjoy dark fantasy with a sprinkle of romance and a dash of the surreal, Splintered is a must-read. It takes the magic of the original Alice in Wonderland and turns it on its head, creating something entirely unique.
